Lucky Mangum is a sheriff’s deputy in rural Timucua County, Florida. As a young girl, her mother was killed, and the boy Lucky loved, Michael “Cal” Jessup, was a suspect. Lucky always believed him innocent, yet the smalltown gossip and collective community doubt resulted in Cal moving away. Twenty years later, he has returned home to reunite with his family and Lucky, whom he has never forgotten. But just as Cal returns, a local young woman is found gruesomely murdered, and another has gone missing under suspicious circumstances. Then another. It becomes clear a disturbing pattern is emerging. Assigned to the county’s task force to combat the issue, Lucky’s focus splinters between a possible relationship with Cal, re-examining her mother’s cold case, and the current killer stalking Timucua. A killer Lucky may not be able to stop alone.
